support is the movement!

The DMV Music Awards began as the DMV Entertainment Music Awards (EMAs) in 2006 by Brother Maniac of MC3, LLC. He successfully produced the first awards show celebrating the accomplishments of unsigned independent entertainers in the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas. His vision was simply to honor, singers, comedians, rappers, songwriters, producers, bands, and others who, year after year, make tremendous strides in their independent careers.

Dre All Day in the Paint of Pimptown Entertainment became the Show’s Primary Promoter in 2007. He has promoted many DC area concerts and open mic events. Dre All Day has successfully promoted the DMV Awards event, bringing in larger and larger crowds as well as media attention to each event.

The introductory year of the DMV Music Awards (2007) show was successful in its own right, attracting over 400 attendees from Baltimore, DC and Northern Virginia. This first event of the DMV Music Awards featured live performances from: Porche 911, Lady Dy, Madam Madon, and  Soul Creation Band.

The 2nd Annual DMV Music Awards (2008) show was also successful, attracting over 1400 attendants from Baltimore, DC, and Northern Va. The 2nd Annual DMV Music Awards show turned out record numbers, as over 1,400 guests came out to celebrate local entertainment. The legendary DJ Kool was one of the true highlights of the evening as he was awarded the 2007 DMV Legends Award. He inspired and touched the audience as he gave an emotional acceptance speech. This Event was hosted by WPGC’s DJ Heat and DJ Rico.

The 3rd Annual DMV Music Awards (2009) show was also successful, attracting over 1400 attendants from Baltimore, DC and Northern Virginia. This show featured a special tribute to DJ K-Swift who tragically passed away in 2008. Live performances from Wanya, Ra the MC, Frayz and The Package added to the event. This Awards programwas hosted by Lil’ Mo and WPGC’s DJ Rico.

The 4th Annual DMV Music Awards (2010) show was also successful, attracting nearly 1500 attendants from Baltimore, DC and Northern Virginia. The 4th Annual DMV Music Awards show  featured a live performance from the DMV Legends featuring (DC Scorpio, Tony Blunt and Stinky Dink along with Wisdom Speaks, formerly Wop and ‘Em). This show featured live performances from Bossman, Her Raw Ness, BE, Will Star, Garvey the Chosen One, Harmony Musik, and Konshens. This event was hosted by WKYS DJ Ez Street.

The 4th Annual DMV Music Awards show made history in 2010 by bringing together various echelons of the independent entertainment community, all celebrating common desires –music, laughter, song, and self-expression. As stated, nearly 1,500 attendees paid homage and highlighted the achievements of local entertainers embracing genres from Hip Hop to Gospel, comedy, video/music production, spoken word and the needed support systems that make it possible – managers, retail stores, DJs, media and radio.

Each year proves to be bigger and bigger, and in 2011, we look to raising the stakes even higher.
This exclusive red carpet affair underscores entertainers and artists in various award categories. Outlets such as radio stations, press/media, record and retail stores, as well as promoters, managers and DJs are also honored for the work they do for the independent entertainment community. A distinguished panel of 21 judges from throughout Maryland, DC, and northern Virginia areas select the winners of each category. As in 2010, this year’s voting panel will consist of an elite mixture of radio personalities, DJs and members of the press and entertainment media. For the 2011 DMV Music Awards, we look to partnering with major entertainment companies and media outlets, artists, and entertainment power-players from the DMV area.
