OFFICIAL STATEMENT: 2011 DMV Music Awards Post-Event Statement
The DMV Music Awards Committee would like to thank everyone who supported the program this year in the efforts to unite various communities for a night of celebration and recognition. The committee is truly saddened by the unfortunate events that took place, and most importantly, we send prayers and apologies to those who were injured last night. This program was designed to be a positive effort on behalf of various people in the local entertainment industry who were planners, judges, power player voters, artists, and fans.
We also extend a deep apology to the Hyatt Crystal City for the events that took place. These acts, by no means, represent the positive nature of the “DMV” music scene as a whole. This community is comprised of thousands from Baltimore to northern Virginia who love to make music and support the artists who do so. It was in this spirit that the DMV Music Awards were created five years ago, and in this spirit, the “DMV” will continue to move forward in the efforts to share great work with the worldwide community of music fans.
Again, thank you to supporters, fans, sponsors, vendors, voters, judges, media and artists. With a theme of “Time to Build,” The 5th Annual DMV Music Awards received support this year from various people and companies in all genres and walks of life. We hope that your faith and appreciation for talent in this region does not waiver.

Congrats to all my fellow nominees, and winners of the DMV Awards, Thank you to Dre All Day and everyone else who has work extremely hard to put this event on for us every year. unfortunately it turned into a very sad night… Utter disrespect to the DMV Awards, and to everyone involved. What was supposed to be a celebratory night turned into a disgrace to the entire DMV Community. We will not let the ignorance, take away our talent and craft and the recognition we have received by all the hard work we constantly put in, to be able to have this award show each year. The dmv is better then this, Now it’s time to truly rebuild… It’s not in how we fall, it’s how we rise from this tragedy.

Every rap artist doesn’t pose as a gangster, and every rap event doesn’t stir up violence. Does it happen? Yes. But at 90% of the events in the DMV music scene, it honestly doesn’t. You’re more liable to get mass violence at a rock concert, with the mosh pits and such, but nobody speaks on that because “it correlates with the music’s culture”. In all honesty, that’s just an alibi for convenience, a way to say “the majority of them are white, so we’ll let it go”. Hip-hop is a target…always has been, always will be. The fact that the events of last night will make the local hip-hop scene more of a target DOES disappoint me and it shouldn’t have happened, but to pre-judge an entire genre of music and people based on this is nothing less than ignorant. But as fellow artist Tese Fever said, “one monkey don’t stop no show.” More music will be made, more shows will happen, and positive progress will still be achieved.

as a proud sponsor of the awards for years now, we support the awards 100% … it is unfortunate that people feel that fists are the way to deal with issues. The reality is that the ignorance displayed at the awards affects all the positive and productive people in the movement. Very proud of the awards staff for handling this manner in a professional manner.
These ignorant people that wish harm on the awards don’t understand that they are soo fortunate to have an event like this at a prestigious venue, hopefully this will not hinder the future of an awards show at another great venue.
We look forward to support this every year !

So what is it about the hip-hop and rap scene that stirs up violence? I mean, really. Does everybody have to pose as a gangsta all the time? Do people lack the self awareness to just live and let live? Nobody wins, and everybody loses with this kind of behavior. Respect begins with self-respect.
